Cub Scouts hosted Pinewood Derby Saturday

The Lone Star District of the Buffalo Trail Council Boy Scouts held its annual Pinewood Derby Saturday at Wilson Motors.
Local Cub Master Monica Bond said this was Snyder’s fourth year to host the competition, which is always held on the second Saturday of February.
Packs that raced cars were Scurry County Youth Center Pack No. 178, Snyder Pack No. 177, Big Spring Pack No. 305, Colorado City Pack No. 2,  and Coahoma Pack No. 501.
The top finishers from the Lion division were Blayzon Barrera (Pack No. 177), first place, Juanito Madrid (Pack No. 2), second place and Tyler Smith (Pack No. 177), third place. 
Top finishers in the Tigers division were Gibson Flores (Pack No. 178), first place, Motley Moore (Pack No. 177), second place and Ian Block (Pack No. 177), third place. 
Wolf division top finishers were Tate Grimes (Pack No. 2), first place, Justice Willson (Pack No. 177), second  and Camden Hefner (Pack No. 305), third place. 
Bear division top finishers were Ashton Ethridge (Pack No. 177), first place, Anthony Davis (Pack No. 2), second place and Gabriel Apodara (Pack No. 178), third. 
Webelos I top finishers were Emery DoPorto (Pack No. 501), first place, Raiden Taylor (Pack No. 177), second place and Samuel Cansler (Pack No. 2), third place.
Webelos II division top finishers Joe Sikes (Pack No. 2), first place, Jacob Oliver (Pack No. 2), second place and Conner Reese (Pack No. 177), third place. 
The overall winners for the were were Tate Grimes (Wolf Pack No. 2), first place, Joe Sikes (Webleos II Pack No. 2), second place and Emery DoPorto (Webleos I Pack No. 501).  
Scouts also voted for racers’ favorite, fastest-looking car and most creative car. 
Camden Hefner (Pack No. 305) won racers’ favorite. Conner Reese (Pack No. 177) won most creative and Blayzon Barrera (Pack No.177) won fastest looking car. 
Wilson Motors employees voted for most creative and fastest-looking cars.  
“The purpose of the race is for the scouts to show off what they built from their derby car kits,” Bond said. “It also helps for the kids to meet other scouts from different towns.”
