More rainfall may be coming to Scurry County today and tonight.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Scurry County and West Texas for today and tonight.
“Thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening across the area,” the bulletin stated. “Any storms that do develop will be accompanied by frequent lightning, gusty winds and brief, heavy rainfall. Some storms will be capable of producing very heavy rainfall resulting in localized flash flooding.”
Even more rain is possible heading into the weekend. The NWS forecasts a 30 percent chance for storms, decreasing to 20 percent by Saturday night. The weather service forecasts a slight chance of rainfall Sunday.
The precipitation will be welcome in Scurry County, which is starting to experience drought conditions. The U.S. Drought Monitor has classified most of the county as experiencing “moderate drought” conditions, while the southwest portion of the county is classified as “abnormally dry.”
