Scurry County residents have a little more than a week to register to vote in this year’s state constitutional amendment election.
The deadline to register for the Nov. 5 election is Oct. 7, Scurry County Clerk Melody Appleton said. To register, visit Appleton’s office on the third floor of the Scurry County Courthouse.
No identification is needed to register, she said.
Early voting for the election will be held Oct. 21-Nov. 1 at the courthouse, while election day voting will be held at the following polling places:
• Precincts 11-13 — south side of The Coliseum.
• Precincts 14-15 — north side of The Coliseum.
• Precincts 5-7 — Scurry County Library.
• Precincts 8-10 — Towle Park barn.
Voters will be asked to present valid state- or federal-issued identification before they vote.
People without identification may cast a provisional ballot if they fill out an affidavit stating they do not have the necessary identification, Appleton said.
“Saying ‘I left my (ID) at home’ is not a valid excuse,” she said. “You will be told to go home and get it before you can vote.”
Proposed state constitutional amendments on this year’s ballot include:
