A preliminary autopsy showed a Levelland man died at a Scurry County oilfield site due to electrocution, Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Ricki Webb said.

On Friday, Martin Demel, 51, was working at an oilfield site located two miles south of Sheppard Crossing on FM 2835 when he collapsed. Co-workers called 911, saying it appeared he had been electrocuted. Scurry County dispatchers learned Demel was no longer breathing and that CPR was being administered.

Demel was transported by ambulance to Cogdell Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by Webb at 5:59 p.m. Friday.
