Retail sales continued their downward trend in Snyder and Scurry County during the month of November.
Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar’s office released allocations figures on Wednesday and like the local numbers, statewide the total was down compared to one year ago.
In Snyder, the January allocation of $202,025 is 42.8 percent less than the January 2014 total of $353,346. The county will receive $137,916, a 12 percent decrease compared to the $156,838 received during the first month of 2014.
Hegar will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $617.2 million in local sales tax allocations for January, 0.1 percent less than the January 2015 total.
Hegar said that sales tax revenue for the state in December was $2.33 billion, down 1.1 percent compared to December 2014.
“As with the previous two months, December sales tax revenue was down largely due to spending reductions in oil and gas-related sectors,” Hegar said. “This was expected, given ongoing weakness in oil and natural gas prices. Remittances from other sectors, such as construction and information, continued to grow.”
