Schools to begin spring break Friday

Friday will mark the beginning of spring break for Scurry County’s three public school districts, Snyder Christian School and Western Texas College.
The Snyder, Hermleigh and Ira school districts will release early on Friday while Snyder Christian School will have a full day of school.
Spring break will be observed March 14-18 with each school resuming classes on March 21.
The three public school districts will be focusing on the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) tests when students return.
The first round of testing will be March 29-31.
Fourth and seventh grade students will take the writing test on March 29 and the math test will be administered to fifth and eighth grade students. High school students will be administered the English I end-of-course exam.
On March 30, fifth and eighth grade students will take the reading test while high school students will take the English II end-of-course exam on March 31.
The second round of testing is scheduled for May 9-12. The schedule is:
• May 9: Third, fourth, sixth and eighth grade math test. Fifth and eighth grade math retest.
• May 10: Third, fourth, sixth and seventh grade reading test. English II end-of-course exam.
• May 11: Fifth and eighth grade science test. Algebra II end-of-course exam.
• May 12: Eighth grade social studies.
Western Texas College will begin the second half of the spring semester when spring break ends. The college will be closed for Good Friday.
Student awards will be presented on April 28 and graduation will be held May 6 at The Coliseum.
