SCJLA Livestock Show starts Wednesday

A total of 80 exhibitors will participate in the 2019 Scurry County Junior Livestock Association (SCJLA) show beginning Wednesday.
This year, 108 pigs are entered, along with 47 lambs, 49 goats and 30 steers. 
There will be a broiler show for chickens and 11 pens have been entered. The commercial cattle category will feature four entries.
While shows will not begin until Wednesday, activities are also scheduled for Tuesday when exhibitors may bring animals to The Coliseum annex.
Pigs must be in place by 4 p.m. Wednesday. On Thursday, the broiler show will begin at 2 p.m., followed by pig showmanship and the pig show starting at 3 p.m. 
The broiler and pig shows will be judged by Brad Bevel of Stamford.
On Friday, goats and lambs must be in place by 8 a.m., and the lamb show, whose judge is to be determined, will begin at 1 p.m. The goat show, judged by Chad Coburn of Sterling City, will immediately follow and the steer show is set for 5 p.m. Mark Arnold of Waxahachie will judge the steers.
On Saturday, the donor appreciation meal is scheduled for noon and awards will be presented at 1 p.m. in The Coliseum. The premium auction is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
Thirteen seniors will be honored during the show and will compete for the Wanda Eicke Memorial Scholarship, Big Country Electric Scholarship, SCJLA/WTC Facility Scholarship and the First Bank & Trust Scholarship.
The seniors are:
• Hermleigh: Cameron Chesser, Austin Sandoval, Blake Hancock and Jacklyn Clinkninbeard.
• Ira: Hannah Caswell, Karson Valentine and Haylee Gruben.
• Snyder: Peyton Walker, Eli McClain, Kade Hunter and Lawsin Merrill.
• Scurry County 4-H: Mayce Herrington and Tuff Quinn.
Grand champion buckles will be presented in the steer (by the Harrell family in memory of Sonny Harrell), lamb (by Justin Donelson and Jason Gruben Families), goat (by R&M Lawn and Landscaping) and pig (by the John Stewart family in memory of Todd Shaw) shows.
Reserve buckles were donated by the Harrell family in memory of Sonny Harrell (steers), the Jeff Minor and Gilbert Sanchez families (lamb), Faye Peterson (goat) and Joe LaRoux Rental Properties in memory of Ronny and Sheryl Lamb (pig).
Senior (ages 14 to 18) and junior (ages eight to 13) showmanship buckles will be presented to a person exhibiting outstanding sportsmanship and showmanship skills both in and out of the show ring. A senior and junior showmanship buckle will be presented for the four shows. The donors were:
• Steers: Scurry County Farm Bureau (senior showmanship); Lone Star Ag Credit Sweetwater (junior showmanship).
• Lambs: Joe LaRoux Rental Properties in memory of Ronny and Sheryl Lamb (senior showmanship); the Joe Campbell family (junior showmanship).
• Goats: Jay and Tosha Callaway (senior showmanship); the Tyson Price family (junior showmanship).
• Pigs: Wilson Motors (senior showmanship); Inwest Retirement Solutions (junior showmanship).
The all-around exhibitor will be presented to a junior and senior participant. It is awarded to a person who has demonstrated outstanding showmanship and sportsmanship in at least two species categories. 
The award, sponsored by Weaver Construction, is determined by a point system based on an individual’s results in the highest six placing classes, breed and reserve breed champion, grand and reserve grand champion, and showmanship.
