Scurry County EMS has received its fair share of awards for its floats entered in the Snyder Chamber of Commerce lighted Christmas parade, but accolades are not the main motivation for the first responders.
Since 2008, the Scurry County EMS float has finished first or second in the best float contest, including three straight first place awards from 2011-13. Paramedic Cindy Josey, Scurry County EMS program development supervisor, said that while she hopes the department wins tonight, that is not her ultimate goal.
“Our goal is for the kids to just enjoy the parade,” Josey said. “I think it’s a good thing for the community to see EMS doing something beside taking care of the hurt and sick.”
Paramedic Jeremy Moody said the parade and float “let the city know we’re part of the community.”
Katrina Reynolds said the thing she enjoys most about working on the float is the reward of seeing the faces of those in attendance.
“It’s a chance for us to bring goodwill and cheer to this community,” Reynolds said.
