Snyder has a new website.

The Snyder Daily News launched a new site Thursday, adding new features that will help bring the community’s news to an ever larger audience.

“For the past several years, we had been trying to add a mobile element to our old site,” Publisher Bill Crist said. “Many of our readers have said they like the current electronic version — or e-edition — of the newspaper, but it was almost impossible to read on a smart phone. We wanted to fix that.”

The new site, which was created by E-Type Systems in Austin, features an e-edition very similar to the existing website’s version, but will also have a responsive design version that allows the stories and photos to automatically format themselves for easy reading on a tablet or smart phone screen.

Online subscribers will have access to both versions through the new site.

“On the left side will be the responsive design version, where you click on a story to read it,” Crist said. “On the right side will be the e-edition, which you can click on to see in the same format as the printed page.”

Both will require subscribers to log-in, like the previous site. Readers will be able to use their existing usernames and passwords to access the content.

“We plan on adding more features in the near future, making use of email push messages to alert readers when we update the site or if there’s a breaking news story,” Crist said. “We also plan to offer more photo galleries and even video in the future. These are things I think that our readers and community will enjoy and appreciate.”

Crist said that like any new product roll-out, there might be some glitches along the way.

“E-Type Services works with hundreds of papers in more than 30 states, so they are pretty good at what they do,” he said. “But if any reader runs into a problem, let us know and we’ll get it worked out as quickly as we can.”
