Second quake reported in county

For the second straight weekend, an earthquake in Scurry County registered on the Richter scale.
At 3:32 a.m. Sunday, a 3.5 magnitude earthquake was recorded 14 miles northeast of Snyder, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The 3.8 magnitude earthquake recorded on Jan. 9 was 12 miles northeast of Snyder.
The USGS reported that Sunday’s earthquake was 2.3 miles deep.
Dispatchers at the law enforcement center did not receive any phone calls reporting damage or from anyone who said they felt the earthquake.
The largest earthquake in county history was a 4.3 magnitude quake recorded on Sept. 11, 2011. Since 1931, 41 earthquakes have been recorded in Scurry County, including 22 in 2011.
