Rain is expected to return to the Scurry County area beginning today, according to National Weather System (NWS) forecasts.
The NWS issued a hazardous weather outlook for today and Friday, affecting Scurry County and much of West Texas.
The weather service bulletin stated that thunderstorms should begin moving into this area this afternoon.
“Thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon and overnight,” the bulletin stated. “Any storms that do develop will be accompanied by frequent lightning, small hail, gusty winds and brief, heavy rainfall. A storm or two could become severe and capable of producing large hail and damaging winds.”
The chance of thunderstorms will increase Friday, with the NWS predicting a 70 percent chance of strong storms during the nighttime hours.
“There is an enhanced risk of severe thunderstorms Friday afternoon and night,” the NWS stated. “Any severe storm will be capable of producing large hail and a few tornadoes.”
Saturday and Sunday are forecast to be mostly sunny, but storms are expected to return to this area late Sunday and continue through Monday, the NWS stated.
Temperatures are expected to range between the mid 60s and high 80s through the weekend.
