For the first time since 2006, Snyder High School will compete at the state one-act play contest.
On Tuesday, Snyder’s A View From The Bridge qualified for next week’s state contest. Snyder and Seminole High School’s Ugly Lies the Bone qualified during the regional contest at Texas Tech University. The Class 4A state contest is scheduled for Tuesday at the Round Rock Performing Arts Center.
“This is a very exciting time for us here. Not only has the drought of state appearances ended, but we have once again tied the state record of state OAP appearances,” director Clark Reed said. “I am honored to be leading this amazing group of young men and women. They have worked incredibly hard and earned their way back to the pinnacle of this contest.”
Reed said one regional judge summed up his students’ performance particularly well.
“One of our judges wrote on our critique, ‘Thank you for sharing this artistic masterpiece on the stage today’ and that is exactly what the kids have created, an artistic masterpiece and I couldn’t be happier for them,” he said. “They have had this goal in mind from day one, and never strayed the course. They came to every rehearsal and worked and worked without ever tiring or complaining. Sometimes I think they worked harder than me most of the time.”
During the regional contest, Brody Jasso was named the best actor and Whitney Tubbs and Bergandi Alvarado were named to the all-star cast. Brett Brunson was named to the honorable mention all-star cast.
Reed said the support of the community has been important to the students.
He hopes that continues next week.
“We hope to see everyone in Austin to celebrate the return of Snyder to the state one-act play contest. Austin is beautiful in the springtime,” he said.
