SHS Band excelled at Solo & Ensemble

On Saturday, 11 Snyder High School band members traveled to Abilene Wylie High School for the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Solo and Ensemble contest. 
Everyone walked away with a medal representing a first division rating on their solo or ensemble performance. Nine students will be traveling to Plugerville for the state competition on Memorial Day Weekend. 
Among those advancing to state are the percussion ensemble, the saxophone trio and two piano soloists.
The Class 1 percussion ensemble, Carolyn Stelluti, John Hernandez, Evelyn Kerr, Gillian Crist, Ricky Luna Jr. and Kevin Nguyen, played On the Horizon and received a first division rating.
The Class 1 saxophone trio, Emilie Hodge, Kynzie Avalo, and Corey Thomas, played Adagio and Allegretto and received a first division rating.
Stelluti and Kerr also played Class 1 piano solos entitled Etudes by Macdowell from Opus 39 and Scherzo Humoristique, The Cat and Mouse, respectively.  
Both solos received first division ratings.
Even performers who were not eligible to advance to state received first division ratings.
Hodge played the Class 1 clarinet solo Sonata 1 and received a first division rating.
Avalos played the Class 1 tenor sax solo Pastoral and Bouree, and received a first division rating.
Jeremiah Valenzuela played the Class 3 tuba solo In the Hall of the Mountain King, and received a first division rating.
