Snyder ISD will hold a pair of community meetings in the coming days to discuss where the district currently stands with the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
In a letter to parents, Superintendent Dr. Eddie Bland said that school officials still have many questions, but will provide information about their meeting with TEA Commissioner Mike Morath.
In the letter, he confirmed what had been reported previously by the Snyder Daily News: Snyder Junior High School (SJHS) will close at the end of the school year in May.
“Our proposal for re-opening the campus next year will be the subject of discussions with TEA and Commissioner Morath,” he wrote to parents. “We will be meeting with the commissioner in December to discuss our (dual pathway) proposal in greater detail. School will continue, as usual, and we will continue to give our students our best.”
Part of the proposed realignment involves partnering with an innovation and turnaround partner, such as Collegiate EduNation.
“Our goal is to find a partner with compatible values, experience with rural schools, and the willingness to walk alongside us to provide the necessary academic support and training,” Bland wrote. “We want to get this right; our students and community deserve the very best.”
Bland wrote the dual pathway proposal will affect the entire district, not only Snyder Junior High School.
“As a district and community, we have worked tirelessly developing our plan for restructuring our entire district, not just SJHS (Snyder Junior High School) to best meet the needs of our students. ”
The community meetings will be held Tuesday from 2-3 p.m. in the Colonial Hill Baptist Church Family Life Center and Thursday from 6-7 p.m. at Snyder Primary School.
