Snyder ISD will hold its Back-to-School Bash Saturday to offer assistance in registering students and provide information to parents.

“It’s our third annual Back-to-School Bash, but it just looks a lot different this year because of COVID,” said Chief Academic Officer Dr. Rachael McClain. “It’s a complete drive-through. It’s a one-stop shop.”

Each parent must schedule a time between 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and choose whether they will meet at Snyder Junior High School or the Snyder ISD Bus Barn.

Once they arrive at the site, staff will direct parents where to park and to remain in their vehicles.

During the Back-to-School Bash, school employees will walk parents through food service options, laptop and electronic device registration, a drug policy presentation, bus route registration, immunization verification and registration assistance for those who have not yet completed registration.

Back-to-school clothing closet vouchers and free school supplies will also be provided while supplies last.

“This year, more than ever, we recognize that our parents may be facing some financial challenges, and we definitely want to do everything we can as a district to offset those challenges,” McClain said. “It was important to us to go ahead and make sure that we’re providing this service to our families, and doing it in an environment where we’re keeping our volunteers and our staff safe and we’re keeping parents and students safe also.”

Parents who have not yet registered their children will need to bring their children’s birth certificate, Social Security card, immunization record, their own parent or guardian identification, proof of guardianship, proof of income and proof of residency with current address listed. Unlike in past years, students don’t need to come to the event with their parents.

“In the past, we’ve always asked for the children to come, but the primary guardian or the parent will be the one who needs to attend the bash, the students do not need to attend,” McClain said. “And like I said, no one’s getting out of the cars. It’s just a drive-through.”

Parents may reserve their time and location online at shorturl.at/rBKM7 or by contacting Anna Montoya at 574-8971.

McClain emphasized that parents do need to register online or by phone in advance. Parents who are quarantined or otherwise unable to attend in person should call Montoya.

“If parents are not able to attend the actual event, they should call our ACE director Anna Montoya,” McClain said. “If vehicle access, or they’ve been told to isolate or they are dealing with COVID symptoms… We’re asking people to stay home if they are sick and we will make arrangements for backpack supplies and registration. We will definitely work around that. We want to keep everybody safe.”

Ira ISD will hold registration from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 4-11. Registration will be online through the parent portal that returning students already have set up and in-person for new students. Identification and proof of residency are required.

Hermleigh ISD is offering online registration for new and returning students at shorturl.at/advS6. Registration must be completed before the first day of school on Aug. 13.

Identification and proof of residency are required.
