As part of Snyder ISD’s plan to return to school safely, district officials plan to stagger student attendance during the first week of school. Each campus has a plan to orient students to school, learn the new health and safety procedures and issue technology.

“With a lot of these kids, it’ll be their first time on a new campus, and we just felt like it would be a better idea to have the students come in staggered so that they can get used to all the new procedures because it will look different,” said Snyder ISD Public Information Officer Valerie Morris. “Also, passing out technology — some of those things can be time-consuming and kids tend to congregate together during them, so we just want to limit the numbers so that we can do that efficiently and safely.”

Snyder primary, intermediate, and high schools plan to divide the student population into four groups, each of which will report on different days during the first week of school.

All students will then report on Sept. 14.

Snyder Junior High School students will not have a staggered start, and all students will be expected to report on Sept. 8.

Snyder Intermediate School Principal Katy Cade said that teachers will be reaching out to parents to schedule conferences and decide who will be coming to school each day the first week of school. If a student will be attending school virtually, teachers will reach out to them with a schedule for classes that week as well.

Snyder High School Principal Shaye Murphy said that high school staff is in the process of finalizing the details of opening as well.

“We will do it by grade level, either beginning with seniors on the 8th and working down to freshmen or beginning with freshmen and working up to seniors. We plan on making a video to explain as well,” he said.

Families will be provided a link later in August with an option to sign up for their preferred day for the first week of school — Sept. 8, 9, 10 or 11.

If a parent has not heard from their teacher by the week before school starts, they should contact their student’s campus.
