The Scurry County Commissioners’ Court opened six bids, ranging from more than $2.3 million to just over $1.5 million, on Tuesday for the general contractor on the Cavender Road project.
Lone Wolf Construction, LLC, of Colleyville, submitted the lowest bid at $1,529,573.  The highest bid was from Price Construction, of Big Spring, for $2,313,490.
MH Civil Constructors, Inc., of Amarillo, bid $1,911,863; Nobles Road Construction, Inc., of Abilene, bid $1,859,045; Black Jack Energy Services, LLC, of Big Spring, bid $1,665,570; and J.H. Strain and Sons, Inc., of Tye, bid $1,657,937.
No action was taken by commissioners Tuesday. David Todd, of Hibbs and Todd, Inc., the lead engineer on the project, reviewed each bid to make sure the addendum had been acknowledged and checked for a bid bond. Todd took copies of each to review and will compile a master list for commissioners.
“We’ll take those back to our office, do a bid tab and check the math,” Todd said. “We’ll review these and get out a bid tab and get them back to y’all.”
The court will review the bids with Todd at the next commissioners’ court meeting, Scurry County Judge Ricky Fritz said.
Commissioners voted in April 2014 to use $2,074,427 from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) infrastructure fund grant program to help pay for the proposed truck bypass.
Scurry County agreed to match 20 percent of the grant award with $414,885.
The proposed road would run from Blockline Road for approximately 1.8 miles east to Hwy. 350. Commissioners had previously said that the proposed Cavender Road is needed as a truck by-pass route due to the high truck traffic volume on Hwy. 350.
