As the Scurry County United Way continues to approach its end-of-year campaign deadline, this year’s campaign has raised slightly more than $95,000 through Friday.
The Snyder Daily News and its employees decided to issue a challenge to other businesses in the community to help raise the nearly $70,000 left to be toward the $165,000 goal, the newspaper staff wants to help inject some excitement in the final few weeks of the campaign.
Today they announced that the Snyder Daily News will match the largest donation made by a single business or organization, up to $1,000, between today and 5 p.m. Dec. 15.
Additionally, publisher Bill Crist said the newspaper would donate a full-page ad to the business or organization if their donation is at least $1,000.
“The employees at the Snyder Daily News have been long-time supporters of the Scurry County United Way and we wanted to make sure that we did everything we could to help make this year’s campaign a success,” Crist said.
“Hopefully this will result in multiple donations and that we’ll be writing a $1,000 matching check when the challenge ends,” he said.
Money raised during this year’s campaign will benefit 11 local non-profit agencies: Boy Scouts of America Buffalo Trail Council, Cancer Services Network, Gateway Family Services, Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains, Jumpstart Enrichment for Tomorrow’s Students, Scurry County 4-H, Scurry County Food Cupboard, Scurry County Museum, Snyder Christian School, Snyder Volunteer Fire Department and West Texas Children’s Advocacy Center.
