The Snyder High School Golden Theatre Company dives into the magical, musical world of fairy tales with four performances of Into the Woods, beginning Thursday.
Performances will be held in Worsham Auditorium on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
The musical combines storylines from fairy tales like Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk and Cinderella. Director Craig Robertson said he and his students are excited to present the show because of the message it conveys.
“The message of this play really lies at the heart of this department,” Robertson said. “That message is ‘you’re not alone.’ Also, it teaches us to be careful of what you say and do because children will listen. We want to set a good example.”
The sheer scale of the production has been challenging.
Robertson said the set is the largest he has seen for a Snyder High School production and the combined number of cast and crew members is close to 80 students. Robertson said it has been challenging, but said he likes the idea of getting more people involved.
“We knew it was going to be challenging when we started, but that’s why we did it,” he said.
All the fine arts departments at Snyder High School are involved in the production. The art department helped decorate the lobby and the set, the choir provides vocals and the jazz band provides a live musical score during the show.
The cast consists of Jacob Lehrer, Talee Jones, Brody Jasso, Breianna Bairrington, Ethan Gowin, Brett Robertson, Caitlyn Tiller, Hannah Klein, Olivia Haley, Christian Quinonez, Bergandi Alvarado, Shi Dowds, Joy Rodriguez, Brendon Jasso, Julian Sotelo, Collin Guynes, Jordyn Stuart, Cassandra Beyer, Brett Brunson, Ian Row, Kodie Dowds, Kellee Martini, Whitney Tubbs and Brence Jasso.
