Moving grades four and five to the present Snyder Junior High School building this summer will be a huge undertaking.
Snyder Intermediate School Principal Jerry Russell credited Snyder ISD employees with making most of the arrangements.
Teachers were told earlier this year about the impending move so they would have plenty of time to prepare.
“The transition is going as well as possible. We have great communication and that is the key to making the move successful,” said fifth grade teacher Emily Birdwell,
After the junior high school staff moves into the new building, the existing building will undergo updating and renovating before the intermediate teachers and staff begin to move in. Aug. 1 is the overall target date to have the move complete, Russell said.
Russell said the district has contracted with a moving company which provided teachers and staff with large boxes, tape, labels and specific packing and labeling instructions. However, Russell said the materials were not handed out until after the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness tests were complete.
Birdwell described “preparations as stress free.”
“It’s hard to mess up a check list,” she said. “This has been the most organized move I have been involved with. We have the best personalities involved in the move.”
Fourth grade teacher Sharon Mendez said her room is filled with boxes she has packed. She said by doing the work herself, she could sort and organize things.
Russell, Mendez and Birdwell said they were excited about the next school year.
“The building and atmosphere are important,” Birdwell said. “In the fall, we will be establishing a true intermediate campus. It will be like being on our own island.”
Russell also wants to get the parents and community more involved with what the intermediate grades will be doing in 2016-17.
Mendez and Birdwell said the students were also excited about the move.
“They think they are more mature now,” Mendez said.
