The Snyder News received the following letter Monday afternoon from Snyder ISD Superintendent Dr. Eddie Bland:

"Dear Families,

"Today, Snyder Independent School District was notified that an individual working at Snyder Primary School has tested positive for COVID-19.

"The individual quarantined after learning they had been in close contact with someone who had tested positive for COVID-19 and has not been on campus since. The individual did not have close, prolonged contact with students and was wearing a mask while on campus. We are working with the Scurry County Health Unit to protect the health of our students and staff. The individual will not be allowed to return until they have recovered and have met the return to work/school requirements outlined on our website.

"Based on the Scurry County Health Unit's prompt investigation of this case and the fact that the proper screening and preventive measures were in place, classes will continue tomorrow morning, and we will continue to follow the protocols established to prevent and stop the spread of COVID-19, including:

   ● Robust cleaning and disinfecting protocols followed daily.

   ● Social distancing implemented to the greatest extent possible.

   ● Staff and students screened daily for symptoms of COVID-19, including temperature screening.

   ● All staff and students in 4th-12th grade are required to wear a mask when 6 feet or less cannot be maintained between individuals. Masks are optional for students in Pre-K-3rd grade.

"I'm grateful this individual followed the established safety protocols and as a result, prevented the need for additional individuals to quarantine or campus closure. This reinforces the importance of following the protocols we have established to help minimize risks for our students, staff, families, and community members. While we recognize that these measures are inconvenient, they are also quite necessary if we plan to have students on campus.

"The symptoms of COVID-19 are similar to the regular seasonal influenza and include fever, coughing, and shortness of breath. Some have reported additional symptoms, such as a runny nose, sore throat, nausea, lethargy, lack of appetite, loss of taste or smell, vomiting, and diarrhea. If your student is ill, please notify the school that your child will be absent and contact your health provider for additional guidance. In the event of an emergency, call 911.

"We will continue to take the steps needed to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and keep you informed of any developments. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child's campus, the district office at 325-574-8900, or email questions@snyderisd.net . Additional information on COVID-19 Safety Protocols may be found here ."
