Snyder population decreased in 2018, census data shows

Snyder’s population continued its downward trend, according to 2018 U.S. Census Bureau estimates.
On July 1, 2018, Snyder had an estimated population of 11,165, down from 2017’s estimate of 11,320. In 2016, the estimated population was 11,607.
Compared to the official 2010 Census, Snyder’s population is now down by 37 people. The official population in 2010 was 11,202. 
The U.S. Census Bureau will conduct an official count of the city’s population in 2020.
Snyder’s highest population estimate this decade was 11,727 in 2015 while the lowest was this year’s 11,165.
Big Spring saw an increase in its estimated population (28,162 in 2018, 27,905 in 2017) as did Post (5,469 in 2018, 5,432 in 2017).
Joining Snyder with fewer estimated residents were Sweetwater (10,518 in 2018, 10,579 in 2017) and Lamesa (9,042 in 2018, 9,211 in 2017).
Last month, the Census Bureau released county population estimates.
Scurry County had an estimated population of 16,866 people on July 1, 2018. That is down 184 people to the 2017 estimate of 17,050 people.
In 2010, the county’s official population was 16,921 and in 2011 it was 16,932. From 2012 to 2017, the estimated population ranged from 17,102 to 17,588, Census figures showed.
