Twelve spellers representing third through eighth grade will compete at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Worsham Auditorium.
The winner will advance to the regional spelling bee in Lubbock.
The regional winner advances to the national spelling bee in Washington, D.C in May.
Representing the third grade will be Addison Ulm and Danielle Baiza. Mario Muro Sotelo and Maria Duran will represent the fourth grade while Javen Hall and Heaven Miles are the fifth grade representatives.
Spellers from Snyder Junior High School will be sixth grade students Cameron Smith and Nathan Loper, seventh grade students Yajat Bhakta and Alex Monroy and eighth grade students Nicole Delmundo and Collin Guynes.
As students prepare for Tuesday’s event, Rena Morrell, who has spelled at the local, regional and national level, said students should “study very hard and believe in yourself. You won’t get far if you don’t believe in yourself.”
Now a freshman at Snyder High School, Morrell still maintains her interest in spelling and vocabulary.
She has been entering practice University Interscholastic League meets at Texas Tech University.
Last week, she placed second in spelling and vocabulary with a score of 71 points.
Terrie Morrow will pronounce the words at Tuesday’s district spelling bee. Judges will be Elaine Bragg, Traci Heflin, Mindi Bredemeyer and Dawn Vandygriff.
