The Snyder ISD board of trustees approved the 2016-17 district improvement plan, which was presented during Thursday’s meeting.
The complete plan will be posted on the school district’s website for public review, Superintendent Jim Kirkland said.
The plan outlined goals for student achievement, finances, district staff and community involvement.
Chief Academic Officer Dr. Rachael McClain reviewed highlights of the plan during Thursday’s meeting.
Under the student achievement goal, McClain said the district plans to increase the percentage of students who are college and career ready from 95 percent to 96 percent and have 30 percent of the students earn credit at a higher grade level.
She said that will include dual-credit classes through Western Texas College.
She said the district wants to continue to see improvement among the Hispanic demographic and for 16 percent of the district’s students to earn commended recognition on state tests.
The district set a goal of 40 percent of the special needs students pass the State Assessment of Academic Readiness test.
The financial goal includes making sure the district has the funds available to provide a quality education, receiving a clean audit and receiving a superior financial rating from the state.
For the instructional staff, goals include having all teachers reach highly-qualified levels and decreasing teacher turnover by 10 percent.
McClain said to help with retention, the district has hired a human resources director and principals will perform accurate evaluations.
For community involvement, the district hopes to increase parent and community engagement by 30 percent by the end of the school year.
McClain said the district hopes to reduce discipline referrals by 30 percent during the school year and will work on drug and bullying prevention throughout the year.
