Santa Claus is coming to town.

Ole’ Saint Nick will make his way to the Snyder downtown square following the annual lighted Christmas parade and Christmas tree lighting Dec. 2.

With lighted trailers, golf carts, ATVs and other vehicles, the parade will follow its traditional northbound route down College Ave. and around the square. The Snyder Chamber of Commerce is seeking participants to enter floats into the parade, decorating their vehicles with the theme A Fairy Tale Christmas. Businesses are also encouraged to decorate their store front windows this year.

“We’re really trying to make it magical for the kids this year,” Chamber of Commerce Events Coordinator Josh Ortegon said. “We want to make the parade as long as we can, and we want to make it memorable.”

Last year’s parade was postponed due to inclement weather, and many participants did not re-enter a float when the parade was rescheduled. Ortegon is hoping that what happened last year will not keep people from participating this year.

“We’re hoping the turnout will be better and that it will be a good time,” he said.

Parade lineup will begin at 5:30 p.m. on the Snyder Shopping Center parking lot, and there is no cost to enter a float. To participate, contact the chamber at 573-3558.

Following the parade, the fourth annual Christmas tree lighting will take place in the Downtown Plaza. Hot cocoa, Christmas carols and kettle corn will be available in the area.

At 7:30 p.m., Santa Claus will fly to the square by helicopter and will land in the First Baptist Church parking lot.

Other Christmas events are also scheduled for next week.

Historic Scurry County, Inc., will host their annual Christmas fundraiser at Heritage Village. The event will run from 4-8 p.m. Thursday and will include pictures with Santa, a bake sale, live performances and a Christmas decorations competition.

Snyder Hometown Christmas will take place in the Downtown Plaza Thursday through Sunday. The event will run from 6-8 p.m. each day and will be available immediately following the Christmas tree lighting Saturday. It is free and open to the public, and it will include a living Nativity scene, hot chocolate, stew and Christmas carols.

A merchant mixer will be held at London Bleu from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 2. Vendors will have items available for purchase. Admission is free.

Snyder Trade Days will be held Dec. 2-3 at the armory in Towle Park.
