The Ritz Community Theatre will soon begin rehearsals for its next show, Suite Surrender.
The comedy is set in 1942, and two of Hollywood’s biggest divas have descended upon the luxurious Palm Beach Royale Hotel — assistants, luggage and their legendary feud with one another in tow. Everything seems to be in order for their wartime performance, that is until they are somehow assigned to the same suite. Mistaken identities, overblown egos, double entendres and a lap dog named Mr. Boodles round out this hilarious riot of a love note to the classic farces of the 30s and 40s.
“It is going to be so much fun bringing Claudia to life. I can’t wait until we bring this show to the people of Snyder. I hope you put this on your calendars,” Cast member Dava Robbins, who plays diva Claudia McFadden, said.
Glenn Burns, who will play Mr. Pippet, Miss McFadden’s unfortunate assistant, said the production could be one of the funniest in recent history.
“This is the funniest script we’ve produced in a long time, filled with an outstanding cast. You don’t want to miss this show,” he said.
“This show is a non-stop frenzy,” said Emily Kincaid. She will portray the spunky Palm Beach socialite Mrs. Osgood.
Cast and crew will begin rehearsals for the show on Monday and performances will be over two weekends in February. It is scheduled for 7 p.m. February 14, 15, 21 and 22 and 2 p.m. on Feb. 16 and 23.
Tickets may be purchased online through the Ritz Community Theatre website or at the theatre the day of the show and are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
“I’ve wanted this show to be done at The Ritz for a long time,” director Stacy Haley said. “It’s a laugh out loud comedy that never lets up until the final curtain.”
