Sunday’s Rally for the Snyder Santa Fe Depot has been moved to the downtown plaza, located at 2503 College Ave.
Organizers of the rally announced the location change today. The announcement came after the Snyder Daily News printed the B Section of today’s edition which stated the rally will be held at the depot.
BNSF officials announced this week plans to demolish the depot, which is one of two depots still standing designed by architect Louis Curtiss. The other is in Post.
Preservation Texas has started a petition, Save the Santa Fe Depot in Snyder, to urge BNSF not to demolish the 1911 building.   The petition may be found online at Change.org.
BNSF spokesperson Joseph Faust said Thursday that there was not a historical designation for the Santa Fe Depot. A picture, which belongs to the Scurry County Museum, shows the 1976 dedication of a historical marker mentioning the depot.
Local historian Paula Hatfield, a member of the Scurry County Historical Commission, said that she plans to bring that discovery to BNSF representatives before it is demolished.
