Taxable hotel receipts continue downward trend

Snyder’s taxable hotel receipts during the fourth quarter of 2015 were down compared to both the last quarter and 2014’s fourth quarter, according to figures compiled by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts office.
During the months of October, November and December, the 16 hotels and motels generated $1,169,704 in taxable revenue with their 646 rooms.
During the third quarter of 2015, when 674 rooms were available, the hotels/motels collected $1,429,076. Over the final three months of 2014, the hotels/motels collected $1,557,620 while $1,574,442 in taxable revenue was collected during 2013’s fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter total continues the downward trend in hotel/motel taxable receipts. During the second quarter of 2015 — April, May and June — $1,703,065 was collected.
Hampton Inn Snyder had the highest taxable receipts at $292,057, down from $297,749 in the third quarter. Holiday Inn Express collected $290,057, down from $398,478 in the third quarter.
Baymont Inn and Suites Snyder had $173,408 in taxable receipts over the final three months, which was up from $95,333 in the third quarter. The Purple Sage Motel collected $93,705, down from $118,046 in the third quarter.
The state collects a 6 percent tax on hotel room stays. Cities and some counties also collect a tax on hotel stays.
The City of Snyder budgeted an increase in hotel occupancy tax revenues for the 2015-16 fiscal year.
The city budgeted $575,000 for 2015-16, a $75,000 increase compared to last year’s budget total of $500,000.
The city collected $439,227 during the 2014-15 fiscal year while this fiscal year, $92,000 has been collected. By this time last year, $109,000 was collected by the city.
