As it prepares to host the district competition, Snyder High School’s Golden Theatre Company is also putting the finishing touches on its one-act play.
Snyder’s entry in the competition will be The Tempest by William Shakespeare.
It opens as a storm overcomes a ship. Prospero, the usurped Duke of Milan, uses magic to torment the survivors. Prospero’s slave, Caliban, plots to rid himself of his master, but is thwarted by Prospero’s spirit-servant Ariel.
Prince Ferdinand, thought to be dead, falls in love with Prospero’s daughter Miranda, but their celebrations are cut short when Prospero confronts his brother Antonio about usurping him as Duke of Milan.
Prospero will be played by Brence Jasso, Miranda will be played by Jaqulynn Craig and Ariel will be played by Whitney Tubbs, Baylee Green, Emmah Hilburn-Herrera, Isabel Rocha, and Karsen Grope.
Caliban will be played by Collin Guynes, Ferdinand will be played by Temo Olvera, Alonso will be played by Collin Mitten, Gonzalo will be played by Aurora Savedra, Sebastian will be played by Caitlyn Crane, Antonio will be played by Alex Monroy, Triculo will be played by Will Haley, Stephano will be played by Jaden West, Iris the Spirit will be played by Gillian Crist, and Juno the Spirit will be played by Maria Martinez.
Crew members for the production include stage manager Johnny-Dean Maresch, lights technician Noah Grant, sound technician Eli McClain, costume designer Anna Hanley and crew members Tanner Tubbs, Sylvia Martinez, Keylee Wagner and Chris Moreno.
The district competition is March 4 and will be held in Worsham Auditorium. Performances will begin at 1 p.m., and Snyder will perform fourth of five schools, at around 4 p.m.
The performances will be followed by an awards ceremony at 6 p.m., to be immediately followed by judges’ critiques.
