Third quarter hotel taxable receipts decline

Even with more than 100 additional hotel rooms this year, Snyder’s hotel occupancy tax (HOT) receipts fell during the third quarter, according to figures released by the Comptroller of Public Accounts office.
During the third quarter of 2016, which covered July through September, Snyder’s 17 motels and hotels combined for more than $1.219 million in taxable receipts. During the quarter, Snyder had 793 rooms available in those motels/hotels.
During the third quarter of 2015, Snyder had 674 rooms available and generated more than $1.4 million in taxable receipts. During the second quarter of 2016, Snyder had 632 rooms available and collected more than $1.287 million in taxable receipts.
Hampton Inn Snyder collected the most during the third quarter at $235,946 compared to $279,749 last year. Holiday Inn Express collected $222,864 this year, down from $398,476 last year.
Comfort Inn and Suites and Fairfield Inn and Suites Snyder were not open during the third quarter of 2015. Comfort Inn collected $165,016 during the third quarter this year while Fairfield Inn collected $125,140.
Baymont Inn and Suites collected $112,353 during the quarter, which is up from $95,333 last year.
The City of Snyder budgeted $375,000 in hotel occupancy tax revenues for 2016-17, down from $575,000 budgeted in 2015-16.
For the 2015-16 fiscal year, which ended Sept. 30, the city collected $453,294 in taxable receipts.
The city has a contract with the Snyder Chamber of Commerce to operate a convention and visitors bureau. Nearly all of the HOT funds collected go toward operating the chamber’s visitors’ bureau and funding events that attract overnight visitors to Snyder.
