Heavy rain Thursday afternoon flooded streets and brought down a tree in the 2600 block of 30th Street.

According to David Cain, a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Midland, the agency had issued a flood advisory for the time period.

“There was heavy rain,” he said. “This statement says, ‘Flooding is possible. Up to one inch of rain has fallen in and around Snyder in the last hour.’”

Cain said the storm produced no other hazardous weather conditions such as high wind or hail.

“Not in that report at least. Sometimes they issue a significant weather advisory for a storm that’s just blown through, and they did not put any of those out with this one. Heavy rain is the only thing I see reported for that area.”

Cain said no further bad weather is indicated for the next few days.

“Not really expecting it,” he said. “Really the next couple of days, most of the rain is expected to be over the mountains. So in the Snyder area, we’re not forecasting til Monday or Tuesday to be back into a chance of storms. It’s going to start trying to warm back up late in the week.”

Some Snyder streets experienced flooding during the storm and were closed to traffic.
