AAA expects nearly 8.3 million Texans will travel over the upcoming end-of-the-year holidays and motorists will see lower gas prices.
AAA announced the travel projection is 1.7 percent higher than last year.
The current holiday travel period begins Wednesday and runs through Jan. 3.
AAA experts say the anticipated increase in holiday travel is also being driven by continued improvement in the labor market and rising incomes.
Most Texans — 7.6 million — are expected to travel by automobile, the association said.
According to gasbuddy.com, the average price for one gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Texas is $1.80 today. That is 20 cents less than the U.S. average of $2 per gallon.
Scurry County’s gas price average is $1.85 while Borden County is averaging $1.80 per gallon.
Garza County has the highest average in the region at $2 per gallon while Howard County has the lowest at $1.73.
In Nolan County, the average is $1.73 per gallon while Kent County has an average of $1.80. Fisher and Mitchell counties are averaging $1.89 per gallon, according to the website.
AAA nationally expects about 100.5 million people will travel for the holidays.
