Treasure hunters undeterred

Michael Davis and his metal detecting family members went to the site of a burned-down house at Randal’s Corner on Saturday and are planning to make several more trips to make sure that they have found everything that there is to find.

“We didn’t find any big treasure yet, but we’ve started the process,” Davis said. “There were lots of nails and cans and things such as that, but you have to get that out of the way before you can get to the good stuff. It’s still exciting to think that the next time you bring something up it may be something of value. We spent probably six hours out there and we found about 30 coins. 1964 is the oldest one we’ve found so far.”

Davis said the job was made a bit more difficult by some of the overgrowth on the site, but he expected that it would get easier as they got some of it out of the way.

“It’s difficult to get close to the ground with the metal detector with all that high growth, but overall, it was very enjoyable and we’re looking forward to going out there again to see if we can scratch the surface a little more and get deeper into the soil,” he said. “It’s kind of a process. You have to have a lot of patience.”
