The Snyder ISD board of trustees will consider a number of personnel-related items when they meet Thursday, but a new athletic director and head football coach is not on the list.
“We are expecting the finalist list on Friday from the search firm,” Superintendant Jim Kirkland said. “And then we’ll see how the interview times will be set up and whether we interview here or somewhere else.”
What trustees will hear in closed session on Thursday is Kirkland’s recommendations on employment and contract status of classroom teachers and other non-administrative personnel. These include probationary contract and term-contract employees.
Also on the closed session agenda is new employment. Action on Kirkland’s recommendations will be taken in open session.
The board will consider approving several expenditures related to converting the present Snyder Junior High School into Snyder Intermediate School, including $49,000 for labor and materials for painting the interior and exterior of the building and $56,000 for playground equipment such as swings, basketball goals and benches.
Trustees will also vote on the selection criteria for the tennis court project, which will include dressing rooms, restrooms and other improvements to bring the facility up to code and in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The board has approved $175,000 for the project.
Trustees will also vote whether to sanction the Scurry County Little Dribblers Association as an extracurricular activity and naming Brad Weese and Leslie Mooreman as adjunct faculty members so that team members can be counted as being in attendance when participating in games that cause students to miss class.
The board also will consider matters related to sustaining the Afterschool Centers on Education program on all district campuses, approval of the district’s wellness plan, approval to celebrate Freedom Week Sept 12-16 and to limit board training for the coming school year to local and Internet access.
The board also will consider the district commitment agreement as required by the Texas Education Agency for all improvement required (IR) districts and campuses and hear three informational items related to the IR status, including the initial turnaround plan for Snyder Intermediate School and the Snyder Primary School and Stanfield Elementary School paired campuses.
The board also will hear updates on construction and renovation as well as for Project Frankenstein.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the school administration building boardroom and there is a time for public comments.
