Trustees have decisions to make in superintendent search

While the superintendent’s position for Snyder ISD won’t be officially posted until Jan. 3, the board of trustees has several decisions to make before that date, members learned Tuesday.
Search consultant Randy Kincaid of the Region 14 Education Service Center, told the board it will need to decide whether to accept applicants from inside the district, and whether members of the board have candidates in mind to be recruited.
“If there is someone out there that you want, don’t write a $3,500 check. Post the opening for 10 days, wait 21 days and you’re done,” Kincaid said. “If that is not the case, then this process will entail many meetings.”
A candidate profile will be developed from information gathered from the public using the district’s website, along with personal interviews with current staff members and visiting with the general public individually and in group settings, Kincaid said.
“We want to gather all the information we can for what you and the community wants in a new superintendent,” he said. “Does the district need a finance person, a curriculum person? You need to think about what you have now.”
Kincaid said the online profile questionnaire is expected to be on the Snyder ISD website Friday, responding to a question from Ron Hester about how quickly the profile questions could be made available to the public.
Trustees are expected to meet with Kincaid again in December to review the profile before accepting applications beginning Jan. 3.
Applications will be accepted for a month.
No timeline to have a new superintendent in place has been set. Current superintendent Jim Kirkland will retire in June.
