TWC data indicates Scurry County jobless figure at 3.6 percent

Scurry County’s unemployment rate in January remained below 4 percent, according to figures released by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).
In January, the county had an unemployment rate of 3.6 percent with 248 of the 6,861 classified as unemployed. 
In January 2018, the county had an unemployment rate of 4 percent with 6,672 people in the workforce and 265 classified as unemployed, TWC figures indicated.
January marked the seventh straight month the county’s unemployment rate has been below 4 percent.
Andrews County had the lowest rate in the region at 2.5 percent while Mitchell County had the highest at 4.6 percent.
Other county unemployment rates were Borden, 3.1 percent; Garza, 3.2 percent; Howard, 3.3 percent; Kent, 3.3 percent; Fisher, 3.5 percent; Coke, 3.6 percent; Nolan, 3.6 percent; and Dawson, 4.5 percent.
The Texas economy saw positive employment growth to begin 2019, with 15,400 seasonally adjusted non-farm positions added in January. 
After holding at a historic low for five consecutive months, Texas’ seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose slightly to 3.8 percent, TWC data showed. 
January marked the 105th consecutive month of annual growth for total non-farm employment.
“Texas employers added 292,000 jobs since last January, an increase of 2.4 percent, which provides exceptional opportunities for our highly skilled workforce and highlights the competitive strength of our diverse economy,” said TWC Chair and Commissioner Representing Employers Ruth R. Hughs.
The Midland Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) recorded January’s lowest unemployment rate among Texas MSAs with a non-seasonally adjusted rate of 2.3 percent, followed by the Odessa MSA which recorded at 2.8 for the second lowest rate. 
The Amarillo MSA recorded the third lowest rate of 3.1 percent.
