Two SHS students test positive for COVID

On Tuesday, Snyder ISD officials announced that two Snyder High School students tested positive for COVID-19.

“These individuals have quarantined and have not been on campus this week,” Superintendent Dr. Eddie Bland said in a press release. “Individuals who should quarantine due to close contact with the individuals who tested positive were notified prior to the distribution of this notice. These individuals will not be allowed to return until they have met the return to work/school requirements outlined on our website.” 

Bland said after consulting with the Scurry County Health Unit, school officials have determined campus activities will continue with established COVID-precautions including

• Robust cleaning and disinfecting protocols followed daily.

• Social distancing implemented to the greatest extent possible.

• Staff and students screened daily for symptoms of COVID-19, including temperature screening.

• Enforcement of all UIL guidelines.

• All staff and students in 4th-12th grade are required to wear a mask when 6 feet or less cannot be maintained between individuals. 

On Tuesday, Scurry County officials reported there were another 12 recoveries from COVID-19 and four new active cases. 

The number of recoveries here is 175 and there are 63 active cases. 

Year-to-date, 239 individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 here.

There has been one death.

According to the Texas Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), on July 28 — the most recent update — there were two active employee cases of COVID-19 at Snyder Oaks Care Center, and one active resident case. 

According to HHS, there have been seven resident recoveries. On that update, there have been no cases reported at Goodlife Senior Living and Memory Care.

TDCJ officials announced in their Tuesday update that two additional employees had tested positive for COVID-19 one additional offender had recovered, 18 individuals had been placed on medical restriction and one additional individuals had been place in medical isolation. 

There are nine active employee cases and 27 recoveries and four offender recoveries and 248 active cases.

The unit remains on precautionary lockdown. 

Mitchell’s County’s Wallace Unit has 14 active employee cases, with five recoveries, and 449 active offender cases and one recovery.
