Two women indicted for intoxication manslaughter

Two Snyder women were indicted by a Scurry County grand jury this week in connection with the 2015 Christmas Eve death of Amanda Gibbens.

Sarah Joann Cearley, 24, and Shanna Jolie Aho, 37, were both indicted for intoxication manslaughter, a second-degree felony. Bond for each woman was set at $15,000.

Gibbens, who was 22 at the time of her death, was a passenger in Cearly’s 2008 Mercury SUV when it was hit by Aho’s 2008 Ford pickup on North College Ave. near Stripes north. According to the police report, Cearly’s vehicle was hit while attempting to turn onto the store parking lot.

According to police records, the SUV caught on fire and Snyder firefighters had to use extrication equipment. 

Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Ricki Webb pronounced Gibbens dead at the scene.

The grand jury also indicted Elida Maria Renteria, 32, of Snyder, on two counts of bail jumping/failure to appear, a third-degree felony. 

Renteria failed to appear for a court hearing on March 9. She also failed to appear for jury selection for her trial that was scheduled to begin March 28 in the 132nd Judicial District Court. She was arrested in Colorado City on March 29.  Bond for each count was set at $100,000.

Jacob Anthony French, 22, of Lubbock, was indicted for third-degree felony bail jumping/failure to appear, a March 9 offense. According to court documents, French failed to appear for a court hearing on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Bond was set at $50,000.

Danny Eugene Baker, 45, of Snyder was indicted for the Dec. 12 offense of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, a third-degree felony. He was found in possession of a firearm before the fifth anniversary of his release from community supervision. Bond was set at $10,000.

Eric Medrano, 26, of Snyder was indicted on state-jail felony charges of possession of a controlled substance and theft. On the controlled substance charge, Medrano was found with less than one gram of methamphetamine on Nov. 5. On Jan. 14, Medrano was arrested for stealing metal lids from his victim. Bond for each charge was set at $5,000.

The grand jury was told Medrano has previous convictions for forgery (2011) and theft (2011 and 2014), all in Scurry County.

John Edward Morrow Jr., 28, of Snyder, was also indicted for the Jan. 14 theft of metal lids. His bond was set at $5,000. The indictment stated Morrow was previously convicted for theft on two different occasions in 2011, both in Scurry County.

Morrow was also indicted for the March 9 theft of a lawnmower, a state-jail felony. Bond was set at $5,000.

Renee Danielle Trevino, 36, of Snyder, was indicted for possession of a controlled substance, a state-jail felony. She was found in possession of less than one gram of methamphetamine on Oct. 2. Bond was set at $5,000.

Thomas Royal Gonzales, 22, of Hermleigh, was indicted for credit card abuse, a state-jail felony. He was arrested on Nov. 25 for using a credit card without the cardholder’s permission. Bond was set at $5,000.

Justin Isaiah Perez, 22, of Snyder, was indicted for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a state-jail felony. He was arrested on Feb. 12, 2016 and bond was set at $5,000.
