The Scurry County United Way Lend a Hand campaign has topped the $40,000 mark.
The campaign has received donations and pledges totaling $41,347, which is 34 percent of the $120,000 goal.
Donations may be dropped off at the Scurry County United Way office, mailed to P.O. Box 1411, Snyder, TX 79550 or made online at www.scurrycountyunitedway.org.
United Way’s eight partner agencies work daily in the Snyder community to assist people with needs such as affordable child care, crisis situations, character development and youth mentoring.
The agencies are Scurry Community Services, Gateway Family Services, West Texas Children’s Advocacy Center, Buffalo Trail Boy Scouts, Texas-Oklahoma Plains Girl Scouts, Cancer Services Network, Scurry County Food Cupboard and the Snyder Volunteer Fire Department.
Two fundraisers for the campaign have been announced.
Ira ISD Principal Dale Jones said the school will hold its annual “Penny War” next week. The school set a goal of raising $2,000 for the campaign.
Proceeds from the annual Western Texas College Fall Festival will also benefit the campaign. The festival will be held from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31 at The Coliseum. A costume parade will begin at 6:15 p.m.
A variety of games will be set up on the floor and prizes will be given away at each booth.
The cost is $12 for one wrist band, $20 for two and $35 for four. Only cash will be accepted to purchase wrist bands, organizers said.
