The father of the late Justin Vaughn said he was glad to have some closure after two men were arrested over the weekend in connection with Justin’s murder in 2013.
Jeff Vaughn said it is still tough for his family to think about his son’s death, but said there is a “sense of relief that justice is being served.”
“We’re sure glad things are starting to surface,” Vaughn said. “It gives the family some closure.”
On March 13, 2013, Snyder police responded to a call regarding a shooting at a residence in the 200 block of 36th Street. Vaughn’s wife and three children were at the residence at the time of the shooting, Snyder Police Chief Terry Luecke previously said.
According to police reports, two shots were fired in the incident. Luecke said investigators believe only one gun was used in the murder.
Christopher Devon Boyd, 21, of Roscoe, was arrested in Nolan County at 5:17 p.m. Thursday and was charged with capital murder. Boyd is currently in the Scurry County Jail. Bond is set at $500,000.
Anthony Gutierrez, 26, of Sweetwater, was taken into custody at 3:19 p.m. Saturday in Sweetwater. Gutierrez is in Nolan County Jail, charged with capital murder, and is awaiting transfer to Scurry County. No bond has been set
Luecke said other individuals have been identified in the case.
“Their identities are not being released at this time,” Luecke said in a press release issued Monday. “At this time, no other information will be released on this investigation as not to jeopardize the investigation or hinder locating the other parties identified in this case.”
Jeff Vaughn said he and the rest of his family appreciates the hard work done by the Snyder Police Department and appreciates the support from the community.
“(The) police did a good job on everything,” Vaughn said. “We certainly appreciate all the work the police did and all the support from the community and Justin’s friends and family.”
