Snyder’s animal population has a new ally in the fight for good health.
Dr. Sharilyn Nall, a long-time veterinarian from Coleman, is now on the staff with Dr. Charles Church at Snyder’s West Texas Animal Clinic.
“I graduated in 1996 from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine, and started at the Coleman Veterinary Clinic in Coleman,” Nall said.
“I’ve been there the last 23 1/2 years. I actually interviewed with Dr. Church right before I got out of vet school, and he offered me the job and so did Coleman, and I went with Coleman because there were three other vets there.”
Nall said she revisited the idea of working at the West Texas Animal Clinic after her children expressed an interest in becoming veterinarians.
“My kids have graduated from high school and they’re in college, and both want to go into veterinary medicine,” Nall said. “This has the potential for ownership, and that’s why I’m here.”
Snyder’s new vet hasn’t been in town very long.
“I moved here January the fifth,” she said. “This is day four, and mainly I’ve just seen dogs and cats so far. I’m still learning the practice, and learning a different computer system and learning where everything is located here, and how things are done here. I’m used to the way I’ve done them in the other clinic and this is a little different. I’m on the learning curve right now.”
During her career, Nall said she’s seen and treated all types of animals.
“I am a mixed animal practitioner,” she said.
“I see large animals, you know, horses, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, dogs and cats, and some of the exotics like, I’ve done some coatimundis, and some buffalo, and some different species. Patagonian cavies… they’re a little larger rodent. Those I’ve seen when I was in Coleman. Just some interesting things that have come in.”
Dr. Nall said she’s enjoying her time in Snyder so far.
“It’s fast-paced, and I’m seeing a lot of things,” she said. “The people I’m meeting here in Snyder, they’ve been so friendly and very kind and understanding. I’ve really appreciated that so far.”
