Two of Scurry County’s first 20 positive COVID-19 test results came from Walmart employees, according to local health authority Dr. Bid Cooper.

“It has come to our attention during our investigations that two employees from Walmart have tested positive for COVID-19,” Cooper said in a statement released this afternoon. “The first employee’s last day to work was May 10, 2020. Based on the onset and testing there is extremely low risk of infection to the public.

The second employee’s last day to work was May 18, 2020. The employee worked in the back of the facility from 4 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., with limited employee contact and no known public contact. The known contacts will be investigated and tested as appropriate.

Please continue to be vigilant and take all necessary precautions.”

The news comes as one additional positive test was announced today, with more than 180 test results still pending.
