After a delay caused by inclement weather, officials hope to start the 37th Street reconstruction project within the next 10 days.
The $477,000 project was tentatively scheduled to begin Monday, but rainy weather forced the contractor, Nobles Construction of Abilene, to delay work, City of Snyder Public Works Director Eli Torres said.
With good weather in the forecast for the next several weeks, however, work on the project should begin within the next several days, Torres said.
“We’re having a pre-construction meeting Monday and the contractor plans to start work the following Friday, or maybe on Columbus Day,” Torres said. “I’ll have more definite information after Monday’s meeting.”
Torres said the portion of 37th Street to be renovated has fallen into disrepair because of age, traffic flow and weather.
“There are cracks in the street that are getting wider and deeper,” he said. “Then, if you just sealcoat it, every time water gets in those cracks and freezes, the cracks widen even more. This project will prevent further damage to the street.”
Project plans call for crews to mill off the top two inches of 37th Street from College Ave. to El Paso Ave., then overlay it with hot mix and sealcoat before finishing up with striping and marking work. If the weather cooperates, Torres estimates the project will take about two weeks, during which time drivers can expect delays.
