Rustin Webb was sworn in by his mother, Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Ricki Webb, as the Snyder Police Department’s newest officer Monday.
Webb has worked at the Scurry County Jail for the past five years, most recently as a jail sergeant. Webb said he has wanted to become a police officer for several years and is happy he finally gets the chance to serve his community in that capacity.
“This is probably the most important thing I’ve done,” he said. “I’ve waited six years to do this.”
Ricki Webb said it was an honor to swear in her son.
“I support him all the way,” she said. “I’m a nervous wreck about him being an officer, but this is what he wants to do. He’s wanted this for a while now.”
Before he can officially become a police officer, Webb will first have to go through policy and procedure education, followed by a 12-week field training officer program.
Snyder Police Chief Terry Luecke introduced Webb at the ceremony.
Luecke said the police department is excited to have Webb join the force once his training is complete.
“We look forward to having him,” Luecke said. “We think he’s going to do a great job.”
Webb said it was “a big deal” for his mother to pin his police badge to his uniform and said he looks forward to starting his new career.
“It’s the chance to get out there, serving the community,” he said.
