The Western Texas College board of trustees, on Monday, may award a bid to install siding on the college apartment complex.
In July, Chief Financial Officer Patricia Claxton recommended replacing the current stucco with siding. She said the apartments were built in the 1980s and no improvements have been made to the exteriors.
Only one bid was received for the project, from Welcome Home Builders, LLC, totaling $189,000. She said in July that refinancing construction bonds could be used to pay for the repairs. She also said $500,000 is in the reserve bond fund and it can only be used for housing projects.
Board members will also vote on a resolution to nominate one or more people to appear on the Scurry County Appraisal District board of directors’ ballot. Other county entities have nominated Jerry Boyd, Ronnie Anderson, Fred Cross, Clarence Spieker and Jay Waller to appear on the ballot.
Six Scurry County taxing entities, along with Roscoe Collegiate ISD and Colorado ISD, will cast votes in the election in December. The only Scurry County taxing entity that does not nominate or vote in the election is the Scurry County Hospital District.
Trustees will also vote to accept the small class report and Athletic Director Tammy Davis’ recommendation of Kyle Cooper to be the men’s head basketball coach.
Cooper is replacing Andre Owens, who resigned to accept an assistant coaching position at Sam Houston State University.
The board will also hear an update on personnel moves that did not require approval and the fall enrollment report.
WTC President Dr. Barbara Beebe is scheduled to present her monthly report and a closed session to discuss personnel or to consult with the board’s attorney may be held. Any action resulting from that discussion will be taken in open session.
Members of the men’s and women’s basketball teams and the athletic training staff will be introduced during the meeting, which will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the Palmer Hall boardroom.
The meeting is open to the public and time will be set aside for comments on agenda items.
