Western Texas College and American Legion Post No. 181 will host events for Veterans Day on Nov. 11.
WTC will host its eighth annual Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. near the college’s flag pole.
Tumbleweed Smith, producer of The Sound of Texas, will be the keynote speaker.
Smith served three years in the U.S. Army security agency. As an interviewer, Smith has assembled one of the largest private collections of oral history in the United States.
A flyover by the High Sky Wing Commemorative Air Force based in Midland is scheduled for the ceremony, weather permitting.
Following the ceremony, veterans, their families and the public are invited to a reception hosted by the college inside the Scurry County Museum.
The Legion will host a 6:30 a.m. breakfast and 9 a.m. flag raising ceremony. A flag retirement ceremony is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and a barbecue dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. All activities are open to veterans.
