WTC nominated for 2017 Aspen Prize

Western Texas College has been named one of the nation’s 150 community colleges eligible for the 2017 Aspen Prize.
The prize, is awarded every two years and recognizes institutions for student outcomes in four areas — student learning, certificate and degree completion, employment and earnings and access and success for minority and low-income students. 
“We are thrilled to be nominated again as we were in 2015,” said WTC president Dr. Barbara Beebe.
Ten finalists will be named in the fall.
The Aspen Institute will conduct site visits to each of the finalists and collect additional quantitative data. A prize jury will select a grand prize winner and a other finalists with distinction in early 2017. 
The Aspen Institute College Excellence Program provides $1 million in prize money, as well as Siemens Technical Scholars Program student scholarships.
Santa Fe College (Fla.) earned the top prize in 2015.
