WTC theatre students to present Pulitzer Prize winning play

The Western Texas College theatre department will present You Can’t Take It With You Thursday through Saturday.
The play will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the fine arts theatre. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens.
The play, written by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman, “explores the cost and consequences of each family member’s faith in self expression as the best way to live a happy life,” director Ray Newton said.
You Can’t Take It With You focuses on two different families. One family, the Kirbys, have money and the patriarch needs to buy a home from the other family, the Sycamores. But the twist is the son of the wealthy family is engaged to a person from the Sycamore family.
The families clash and Sycamore breaks off the engagement, which changes the lives of the Kirby family.
The play won the 1937 Pulitzer Prize for drama and was adapted for the movie screen and won the Academy Award for best picture and best director, Frank Capra.
Members of the WTC production are Taylor Sealy, Mallory Grigsby, Ashlee Rub, Joseph Long, Ariel Bondoc, Austin Smith, Bert Salas, Keelie De-Ville, Caitlyn Cornutt, Bret Bondoc, Troy McKinney, Cruz DeLuna, Catherine Billivant, Sierra Salazar, Luz Valadez, Tanner Rutledge, Caitlyn Cornutt and Jasmine Turner.
The costumes were designed by Teresa Newton. Valadez is in charge of sound and Ariel Bondoc is in charge of lighting. Bret Bondoc was the set designer.
