For the second time this year, Snyder’s monthly sales tax allocations topped $300,000.
The Texas Comptroller’s office reported that Snyder will receive $323,318 this month based on sales made in June by businesses that report taxes monthly and for sales made during April, May and June for quarterly filers.
The $323,318 distributed in August is down 2.55 percent from last year, when $331,807 was returned to the city. June events, like the West Texas Western Swing Festival and Petticoats on the Prairie, have helped increased sales tax allocations the past two years.
The first time Snyder topped $300,000 in 2019 was May ($358,342).
For the year, Snyder has received more than $2.3 million, up 13.01 percent compared to the 2018 year-to-date total of more than $2.05 million.
Scurry County’s allocations dropped by 8.47 percent compared to a year ago. This month, the county will receive $211,436 compared to $231,018 returned in August 2018.
With August’s allocation, the county has received more than $200,000 four times this year — $211,329 in March, $223,930 in May and $203,108 in July.
Year-to-date, the county has received more than $1.6 million, a 16.5 percent increase compared to 2018’s total of more than $1.37 million.
The Texas Comptroller’s office will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $876.8 million in local sales tax allocations for August, 4 percent more than in August 2018.
