Something needs to change-Letter to the editor

Dear Editor,
Frank Toland’s letter (April 16) was direct and to the point and much appreciated.
The disrespectful and condescending attitude of Bill Lavers is uncalled for and he should apologize to the citizens of Scurry County. Also, the taxpayers are due a clear and full audit of monies expended and monies generated.
I believe the job of the Development Corporation of Snyder should be to bring into Snyder new ideas in commerce trade, not businesses that compete with established businesses already here. What does that accomplish? Usually one or two of the already established businesses have to close.
By giving tax abatements to new businesses, you have created an unfair price advantage. The established businesses have to generate property taxes in their pricing while the newcomer does not. This is quite unfair to the people that have been here for years.
Something needs to change and I think we all know what it is.
